Omar Sy is back as Assane Diop in “Lupin” Part 4, which arrived on Netflix on Oct. 23 after the longest gap between seasons in the show’s history. The French crime drama returned almost three years after Part 3 ended with its gentleman thief turning himself in to police, according to What’s on Netflix.
The new season has eight episodes of about 45 minutes each, and Sy and director Louis Leterrier serve as showrunners.
Where the story picks up
Part 3 ended in October 2023 with Assane surrendering after threats to his wife, son, mother and a close friend. The new season’s trailer shows him blamed for crimes that appear to be the work of a copycat. Sy said in French media that Assane is done with the character of Lupin, and the plot reportedly leans on deepfakes and hacking, an update to the old cons that made the show a hit.
Sy has also teased the ending. He said viewers have to watch to the finale to learn whether the series is over, without giving more away.
Who is in it
Ludivine Sagnier returns as Claire, along with Shirine Boutella, Antoine Gouy, Soufiane Guerrab and Théo Christine. The series was created by George Kay and François Uzan and is produced by Gaumont with Carrousel Studios.
Why the return matters for Netflix
When “Lupin” debuted in January 2021, more than 70 million households watched it, which made it one of the biggest non-English series Netflix had released. The company is also trimming staff, a story we covered in our report on the Netflix and eBay layoffs.
The reports reviewed do not include early viewership numbers or reviews for Part 4.
