The Milwaukee Brewers lead the World Series 2-0 over the Tampa Bay Rays after winning Game 2, 5-4, on Saturday night, and the series now moves to Tampa for Game 3 on Monday. Milwaukee won Game 1 by a score of 3-2 on Friday.
Neither franchise has won a World Series, so one of them is now two wins away from changing that, the Associated Press noted when the matchup was set.
How Game 2 turned around
The Rays struck first and hard. They scored four runs in the first inning, with catcher Liam Hicks hitting a home run and driving in two. Milwaukee’s Logan Henderson gave up four runs over three innings. The Brewers got two of those runs back right away, then chipped away.
Milwaukee added single runs in the fourth, sixth and seventh innings, and Sal Frelick hit a home run and drove in a run. The Brewers finished with 11 hits to the Rays’ seven. After Henderson left, the relievers did not allow a run over the last six innings. Abner Uribe got the win and Aaron Ashby earned the save. Tyler Wells took the loss for Tampa Bay.
Sports Illustrated described the win as another comeback for a team that has made a habit of erasing early deficits. The Brewers trailed Los Angeles early in their National League Championship Series sweep, too, which we covered in our report on the Brewers’ win over the Dodgers.
